Skew

My Skew sock has been published! It is one of the winter Knitty surprises. The waiting has been killing me.

I'm short on time today (I'm prepping for a crochet scarf class tonight), but I promise to blog tomorrow with some notes on upsizing (and downsizing). Also, there is an error in the Big Toe section; I've put an errata note on the Ravelry pattern page, and will add the details here too shortly.

You've done it! reluctantMANGO is no longer reluctant!

The Skew socks are really, really exactly there. They kind of make me feel like I can breathe out. Thank you. These are going to the top of my sock list. My fingers are just itching to get started.

Congratulations on being published! This is one pattern that's going to get a lot of play. Normally, straight stockinette knitting bores me to tears, but your nifty technique cancels that out completely! Luckily, I just bought some sock yarn that would be just perfect for these! Thanks again for sharing with us.

I love them! (Even though I'm going to do them with DPNs despite the warning.) I actually came looking for the errata when I realised the big toe wasn't possible as written; it's not on Knitty yet, so I'm watching both pages anxiously!

Wow, cool idea - will have to try these. I was amused to see that one of the three books in your 3rd photo (Discrete and Combinatorial Mathematics) is the textbook for one of the classes my husband is teaching this term at the University of Oregon.

Thank you very much!

Congratulations! It's a very cool pattern. I'm tempted to knit it, though I'm not really a fan of sock knitting. Lots of singles with no pairs out there for me!

I saw the Skew Sock on Knitty today, which is how I ended up on your blog. It is soooo awesome, I couldn't stop going back and looking at it! Especially that heel!

I had to stash surf at work (through the magic of Ravelry) and pick out some perfect yarn and rush right home and start it tonight. Despite my New Year's resolutions to finish more WIP's before starting new things...

Most impressed with your design. Cannot wait to knit a pair. Will need the upsizing guidelines for these size 10.5 EE flippers.

Just saw your Skew pattern and you're my idol. The engineering and math behind knitting is what got me into it in the first place and it still keeps it interesting. Congratulations on a great pattern, I can't wait to make them.

Hey Lana, I know it's best to have a punchy one-word name for a pattern, but I keep thinking of this as The Sock That Should Never Be Hidden In A Shoe pattern.

Hey, what about putting your design and engineering head into a Skew Shoe, just for showing off these nifty socks?

Very cool! These are going to be my knitting olympics project. Please please please post the resizing instructions before 9pm EST tonight so that I can cast-on on time. Congratulations on being published in Knitty!

I started knitting the Skew Sock this afternoon. My graduate studies will have to wait; I'm loving the pattern. Thanks so much.

I loooove these socks! Cast on, and am stumped on Round 1 - how can you LLinc or RLinc into a stitch "2 rows below" when you are knitting into a cast-on stitch that has never been knit into?

Lana said...

RHRandle-- after the Magic Cast On, you are supposed to knit all the stitches off one needle (6 stitches) before beginning Round 1, so there is a row of stitches formed between the needles. And you only work a LLinc two rows under a stitch you've just knitted. So there are only two stitches below the one on your right needle when you form the first LLinc, but they're there!

i am having an issue with the short rows at the end of the sock. could you please assist me.

The pattern does not call for a w&t however when I get to the second 1/2 of the first set up row i am getting the usual holes in my work. should i be doing a w&t or what is the solution to this. thanks.
